U.S. - Canada Cross Border Seminar
Ogdensburg, NY
May 22, 2008
On May 22, 2008 the U.S. Commercial Service and the Canada Border Services Agency hosted a full-day information session at the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority in Ogdensburg, New York. The sold out event was well attended with over sixty-two business representatives from the United States Canada representing various industries including manufacturing, distribution, custom brokerage, logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM), to name a few.
The seminar focused on entry strategies for U.S. and Canadian exporters and tips for the Canadian manufacturing sector to increase productivity through outsourcing and relocating in Ogdensburg. Presenters included Stephan Wasylko and Michael Grossman, both with the U.S. Commercial Service, John Rishe of the Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority, Robert Lacelle and Darko Nikolic of the Canada Border Services Agency, Timothy Wing and Ann Leduc of FedEx Solutions, John Korcz of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Leigh Rodriguez of the St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development and Kimberly DesChamp of the City of Ogdensburg. Seminar attendees were also treated to a tour of the U.S. and Canada customs facilities, Ogdensburg Business Park and the Ogdensburg Port Authority facilities. AmCham Canada President Robert Bathgate was asked to bring greetings during the luncheon portion of the event and encouraged the organizers to hold a series of similar workshops at border crossings on both sides of the 49th parallel.
This exciting event was an excellent opportunity for Canadian and American businesses to come together and learn more about cross border trade, its requirements and its many benefits. Special thanks were given to the U.S. Embassy in Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency for the organization of the "hands on" presentation. The seminar was sponsored by the U.S. Commercial Service, FedEx, the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency, the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority and the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada (AmCham Canada).
