Expanding to Phoenix – Business Presentation

On June 12, 2008, Fogler, Rubinoff LLP and AmCham Canada hosted Rod Miller, VP International Economic Development for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. The guests included executives from finance, alternative medicine, education and economic development. Stefan Popescu, commercial officer, U.S. Commercial Service was is attendance as was Lou Milrad, CEO of the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance.

Rod Miller described the Greater Phoenix Area and the programs and incentives offered through the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. He highlighted the "GPEC 90-Day" and "Shovel Ready" Programs while also describing the many other benefits of expanding into the Greater Phoenix Area, including, its high quality workforce, its excellent university and community college systems, its strong transportation network and the fact that it has the 3rd youngest population in the United States. He also spoke about the recent growth of the alternative energy, aerospace and bioscience industries in the Greater Phoenix Area. Canadian businesses that have successfully expanded into the Greater Phoenix Area include, Bombardier Aero, Cascades, TransCanada, InNexus and MDS International.

Following Mr. Miller's presentation, the guests were given the opportunity to ask questions and introduce themselves and their business or organization. The guests were particularly interested in opportunities in education, alternative energy, alternative medicine, and bioscience. Mr. Miller was very knowledgeable and provided clear and informative answers to the queries from the audience. Martin Rosenbaum, Vice Chair AmCham Canada, Ontario and partner with Fogler, Rubinoff LLP was the mc for the event.
