Business Breakfast Roundtable with the Mayor of Phoenix

Mayor Phil Gordon of the City of Phoenix led a business delegation to the Greater Toronto Area to meet with Canadian business people to discuss investment opportunities for Canadian companies in Phoenix. The Phoenix delegation included representatives from the Canada Arizona Business Council, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), the Canadian Consulate in Phoenix and businesses in the homecare products, bio-tech, aerospace and hospitality industries.

On July 7, 2009 the Ontario Chapter of AmCham Canada hosted a business breakfast roundtable featuring Mayor Gordon and the Phoenix delegation at The Exchange Tower in downtown Toronto. The event was well attended by representatives from the Ontario government and a number of Canadian business people from a variety of industries including information technology (IT), engineering, finance, and transportation and logistics. Mayor Gordon gave an informative presentation about the exciting opportunities for Canadian businesses that are looking to expand operations in Phoenix. He spoke about the business atmosphere, the accessibility of the local government, the integration of the universities and the colleges with the business community, the growing population and the ease with which people can open a business as being benefits of doing business in Phoenix. He also spoke about the developments that are being made to the airport in Phoenix to increase international flights, partner with international airlines and increase the frequency of flights to Canadian cities. Scarlett Spring, Senior Vice President of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, also gave a brief presentation regarding the business opportunities in Phoenix. She spoke about the developments that Phoenix companies are making in the fields of healthcare, energy, technology, bio-tech and aerospace.

Following the presentations, each guest spoke briefly about themselves, their companies and their interests in Phoenix. The event was very informative and gave everyone an opportunity to make valuable business contacts.
