AmCham Annual President's Luncheon

U.S. Ambassador David H. Wilkins

On February 21, 2008, the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada hosted its Annual President's Luncheon featuring a keynote speech by David H. Wilkins, U.S. Ambassador to Canada and honorary President of AmCham Canada. The luncheon was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Toronto immediately following AmCham's annual general meeting. There were over 250 people in attendance including U.S. Consul General John Nay, Ontario MPP Kevin Flynn, AmCham Canada President Robert Bathgate, Adrean Rothkopf Managing Director for North American, US Chamber of Commerce and many AmCham Canada officials, members and guests.

Ambassador Wilkins' speech focused on the Three A's: Africa, Afghanistan and America. To listen to the speech, click here. He addressed President Bush's recent trip to Africa and the many efforts taken by the U.S. to combat and prevent diseases like HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Ambassador Wilkins also spoke about his recent trip to Afghanistan and acknowledged the efforts and accomplishments of Canadian and NATO forces to secure Afghanistan. Finally, he spoke about America's contribution to the world, including its efforts in leading the global fight against HIV/AIDS and other diseases, in helping to grow economies, in raising standards of living throughout the world and in providing timely relief in the aftermath of earthquakes and other natural disasters. He also thanked Canada for the relief it provided to the U.S. in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and 9/11. He concluded his address by expressing the gratitude the United States has for its neighbour, ally and best friend, Canada.
